Bleeder cleaner tools require unique packing. The reason for this is a multitude of factors. Forces placed on the packing is axially applied as well as radially. It is important that the packing not be subjected to high speed axial rotation. This means that these tools should only be operated by hand, if possible, and not with any high speed rotating device, such as a drill motor or air motor. If for any reason a bleeder cleaner must be operated with a rotary device, it should be done at the lowest possible speed. This means that only an adjustable speed drill motor should be considered. Another hazard to bleeder cleaner packing is the hammer drill. The pulsation and rotating forces combined are simply too great and will quickly destroy the sealing ability of the packing. There are packing materials for corrosive process materials such as TFE. Carbon packing is another suitable packing for bleeder cleaners. However, the greatest performing packing for these tools is graphite-oil packing.
